General TV & Radio Broadcast Recption & Interference Issues EMC Compatibility: 1. Electrical and Electronic devices generate EMI (Electromagnetic Interfence). It is the EMI from these devices which can interfere with your equipment. EMC compatibility is aimed at products designed with minumul EMI in accordance with an EMC Standard which sets limits to the level of EMI produced. In Australia Importers manufacturers and suppliers of equipment must comply to the Australian Communications & Media Authorities EMC Regulatory Scheme. 2. EMC compatibility also extends to equipment designed to operate in enviroments subjects to radioc transmitters. For example GSM phones were well known to cause interference to people home phones, computer speakers and car stearo. The GSM phone was thaught to be the culprit. The real problem is that the other equipment hadn't been designed to operate in this enviroment. This is a lack of immunity design of the device being interfered with. In Australia there currently isn't any EMC immunity standards for your general consumer electronics.
